I moved to Waterloo Region in 2005.  Cambridge was one of the best choices on my list. I found that Cambridge and Kitchener-Waterloo are not too large but enjoy all that a big city might have. The cost of living in Waterloo Region is more reasonable than a big city like Toronto or even a small city like Guelph.  What attracted me to move to Cambridge is its distance from Highway 401 and Toronto, and that the population of Cambridge is lower than Kitchener-Waterloo. That makes it a safe place to raise children.

When I immigrated to Canada there were many things that I didn’t expect.  I was surprised by the multiculturalism.  I also didn’t expect that Waterloo Region would have so many different agencies that help newcomers and immigrants.

Overall, Waterloo Region is a great place to live.  It is mostly family-oriented and you can find good schools, good quality neighbourhoods and affordable housing. Transportation is good around the cities of Cambridge, Kitchener & Waterloo.

The job market is not as straightforward as I thought and I expected to find a job faster. Waterloo Region’s community was built around a family concept. Because of that, I found that building my network is a sensitive matter. Building my professional and personal network around my community in Cambridge did help me to find a job more easily.

For the first time in my life I found a suitable job in my field as a Social Worker.
I am also working on my skills through taking some courses and training workshops. That helps me to stay competitive. My goal is to pursue my education and work on my Masters degree in Social Science.
