Welcome to Waterloo Region! The Region is located just one hour west of Toronto, Canada, and is home to over 500,000 people. Explore the many urban and rural communities that make up Waterloo Region. People from many cultures live here. Many immigrants have made Waterloo Region their home.
This website has information in English to help you in your decision to immigrate to Waterloo Region, when you are moving here, and as you settle in Waterloo Region. We want to help you as you start this new part of your journey.
Most people in Waterloo Region speak English. You will need to speak English at work and in many other daily situations. However, Waterloo Region is made up of people from many cultures and languages, including many people who speak your language.

There are many groups that help newcomers in Waterloo Region. Some may be able to offer services in your language. The following organizations are a good place to start:
1. YMCA Cross-Cultural & Immigrant Services – helps newcomers in Canada with language and employment assessment, job search, settlement and documentation, community referrals, and matching newcomers with Canadian hosts. For more information about the YMCA email newcomers@ckwymca.ca or visit:

2. Kitchener Waterloo Multicultural Centre (KWMC) – helps newcomers with job search, interpretation and translation, settlement and documentation needs, and counselling.

3. Mennonite Coalition for Refugees (MCRS) –helps refugee claimants (refugees who are seeking protection in Canada) with the refugee claim process, immigration proceedings, settlement and other needs.
