Meet Other Immigrants

Meeting and talking to other people who have made Waterloo Region their home can be very helpful.  You can meet immigrants online or through local groups and organizations.

Meet Immigrants Online

The following places can help you to meet other immigrants online:

  • Loon Lounge: A Facebook-like social networking website for prospective and current immigrants to Canada to give advice and create friendships.  Check out the Waterloo Region community on Loon Lounge.
  • Settlement.Org Discussion Forum: A discussion forum for people across Ontario to ask questions

These websites are separate from www.newcomerswaterlooregion.ca.  Look at the moderation rules for each site to judge the accuracy of their information.

Meet Immigrants through Local Groups and Organizations

In Waterloo Region, there are groups and organizations where you can meet other immigrants.

  • Ethnocultural and Religious Groups: Meet immigrants and others from a particular culture or belief in our community.
  • Local Immigrant Organizations: The organizations offer various workshops and programs, like conversation circles, where you can learn and meet other immigrants.
  • Community Organizations: Great places to get involved and have fun.  You can meet immigrants and others in your community.
  • Waterloo Region Newcomers and Alumnae Club: For women of all ages who are new to the Kitchener/Waterloo/Cambridge area (within the last 3 years).  WRNAC helps newcomers get acquainted with the region while promoting friendships through monthly social gatherings and activities.
